From Carlsbad, New Mexico, drive 19 miles south on U.S. 62/180 to reach Whites City. Fill your gas tank in Carlsbad to avoid being at the mercy of the one pricey station in Whites City.

From Whites City, drive 7 miles west on winding Carlsbad Caverns Highway. Plan 45 minutes to reach the visitors center, due to the curvy road and slow vehicles. Watch for wildlife darting onto the road.
